COMMITTEE
The BPSU Mental Health Campaign Committee is a Standing Committee established as per Article V – Organization; 2 (f) General Council of the Constitution of the Bermuda Public Services Union.
Mental Health Campaign Committee Chairperson: Sis. Karen Grant-Simmons
The purpose of the Committee is:
To promote, encourage, and support healthy attitudes and behaviors among
members of the BPSU.
To ensure that members have access to programs facilitating better lifestyle
choices, providing opportunities to practice healthy behavior individually, in
groups, and within the organizational context.
To implement programs that motivate changes in individual employee behavior,
challenge stigmatizing beliefs about mental health, and create opportunities
for group support interactions.
To foster a psychologically safe working environment by aligning leadership,
policies, practices, and the physical work environment with healthy behavior
change.
To play a crucial role in communicating, participating, motivating, and
supporting members to:
i. Create a healthy worksite and a culture of mental wellness.
ii. Foster collaboration and enthusiasm among employees.
iii. Reshape the company/organizational culture to promote healthy living.
iv. Encourage a psychologically safe working environment.
To organize regular workshops or webinars covering various aspects of mental
health to enhance awareness and understanding.
To create an online resource hub to provide individuals with access to articles
promoting mental health, along with information about local mental health
services and professionals.
To recruit and train mental health ambassadors or shop stewards within each
bargaining unit, serving as points of contact for mental health-related issues
and initiatives.
To encourage success stories of members who have overcome mental health
challenges will be highlighted and celebrated to inspire others and reduce
stigma.
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
The Committee has limited authority to operate within its annually approved
budget; and acts as advisors to the General Council as it relates to the
improvement and advocacy of mental health matters.
The Committee shall collaborate with other BPSU standing and ad-hoc
committees when their objectives align to prevent overlapping events and
enhance BPSU membership participation.
The Committee is responsible for establishing and enforcing guidelines and
procedures that align with the BPSU Strategic Plan to govern its operations and
initiatives.
